Good morning,

Clubs have been notified via the attached Circular regarding the 2021 NSW SLS Championships (see Attachment – Memo). Further Circulars will be released next week.

Of note – the Championships are planned for and will be held, which is great news.
Our competitors and their families have something to aim for.
.
Some of the key points:
- There is a Beach and a separate Water event venue – Redhead (Beach) and Swansea-Belmont (Water). This will require some logistical considerations and I ask that you start giving consideration about the particular events your children will be competing in.
- Competitors must chose to do either Beach or Water events but not both.
- ‘Restricted Events’ – Board Rescue and Ironperson – there is a quota for each Branch and qualifying TBC but is usually through results at the Hunter Branch Championships in 2021.
- There is no competing up in in any age groups for u9 to u15:
• The U14’s are not permitted to compete in the U15’s this year due to the bubbles created and the concern around ‘mixing’ from NSW Health.
• As per the Surf Sports Manual, the U14’s are not required to meet (15) minimum Patrol Hours to compete up in U15 team events (noting that competing up into u15s is not permitted at NSW Open Championships this season)
• In relation to U17’s, as per the Surf Sports manual, the U17’s may compete up in either the U19’s or Opens but not both = they are able to compete in two age groups.

- As a Club we are required to provide accredited Officials and this is based on a ratio – we will need your assistance and this is a mandatory requirement like every season (see Attachment – Officials quota).
This is in addition to requiring:
Age Managers
Water Safety (Bronze Medallion required)
IRB Driver and Crew (accredited)
Team Manager/s

There still remains an expectation that at least one parent for competitors, particularly in the Juniors u9 to u14 age groups, is assisting in some role, i.e.: Age Manager; Official; Water Safety; other roles and support such as coaching. You can contact myself or Michael Clancy to discuss how you can be involved.
.
Entries for the Championships will be opened online via the SLS Carnival Entry System from Monday 21 December 2020 and close at 11pm, 20 January 2021 – further instruction about entry nominations and requirements will be communicated but for those new to competition for this Major Championship, the Club does the entries, you don’t need to enter yourselves.
.
The season has seen disruptions, modifications and the NSW SLS Championships are included in this – we do get to set goals; compete; and to strive to achieve these goals. We all look forward to the competitors and our Club doing our absolute best.

Thanks again to our coaches and all volunteers who are putting in their time in support of our competitors and the Club. Only through a team effort are these things possible.

Regards,

Andrew Pettit
