Welcome to 2021.
The 2021 NSW SLS Championships are proceeding at this stage. There will be other Team App posts regarding these Championships.
These are Major Championships and as a Club we ask for your assistance to support your/our competitors.
The first call for Officials has been released. I appreciate those members who may have already nominated.
As the events will be conducted over a number of areas, Surf Life Saving NSW is looking for accredited Officials who meet the following requirements:
• Be a current financial member of a club for 2020/2021 season
• Hold a minimum of a current Core Official accreditation
When Official appointments have been finalised, all Officials who nominated will be notified by an official Appointment Memo.
There are quotas mandated by SLSNSW that are to be adhered to. Please note that the calculations for the Officials Quotas will be based on the total entries for each championship and will not be based on the numbers per biozone i.e.: Officials quotas for Age, Open and Masters will be calculated on the following:
• Total entrants for 2021 NSW Age Championships
• Total entrants for 2021 NSW Open Championships
• Total entrants for 2021 NSW Masters Championships
It is expected, however, that clubs will spread their quota of officials across bio-zones in accordance with their club’s competitor entries.
Based on our competitor surveys to date we require at least:
Age Championships (U9 to U14) – 7 Officials
Open Championships (u15 to Opens) – 3 Officials
Masters Championships – 1 Official
You can do the Officials nomination via the attached Circular links on page 3 – you are also reencouraged to complete the Medical Form Online.
Action:
1. Officials who haven’t already nominated to please do so.
2. Request you contact me by email confirming you have nominated (and for which Championships) by Thursday 7th January 2021. The earlier the nomination the greater the chance of being in the area you’re seeking.
2. Any club member who was previously an accredited Official to check their qualifications and where required to update these – the Club has a long standing expectation a parent will be involved in some capacity. Refer to Attachment and suggest Technical Official is the preferred option. The key steps are:
• Be a financial member of the club
• Have a volunteer WWCC number
You will then need to:
• Log into your member portal account – members.sls.com.au
• Go to eLearning across the top
• Select Training Library on the left hand menu
• Select SLS Officiating
• Select SLS Technical Official (second one across).
• There is a $60 cost to become an official – as a Club we have reimbursed this fee when the Official has completed the course and demonstrated a return for service at carnivals.
• Ensure you complete all six elements of the SLS Technical Officials course, download the certificates and send them to onto Jenny Hicks
for filing.
